Cast on 76 st, 19 st per needle. Begin cable pattern, 19 pattern repeats around. Knit 5 pattern repeats down, begin heel.

- * * = slip 1 purl st to cable needle, hold in back, knit 2, purl st on cable needle

* * - = slip 2 knit sts to cable needle, hold in front, purl 1, knit sts on cable needle

Heel

At the beginning of a row turn and purl across two needles, slipping the first st of every row. Turn and knit across same needles. Continue in this fashion until you have knitted 21 rows. Knit 13 st, k2tog, k1, turn. Slip first st purl 5 st, p2tog, purl 1, turn. Slip first st knit to slipped st, k2tog, k1 turn. Slip first st purl across to slipped st, p2tog, p1, turn. Continue like this until all the st have been knitted. Pick up the st you slipped at the beginning of each heel row, about 10 on either side. Begin knitting around again decreasing 1 st every other row, on the end of the first needle and the beginning of the fourth needle until 76 st total. Continue in pattern on second and third needles until toe, about 4.5 pattern repeats down.

TOE

Decrease 1 st end of every needle, every other row, until 10 st on each needle. Then decrease 4 st every row until only 4 st left on needles. Break yarn and thread through 4 remaining sts. Pull tight and weave in ends.
